With energy saving and climate change being a hot topic this year the Carbon Trust has taken some very important steps to help companies contain their energy expenses.

The Carbon Trust was set by the government as an independent company in 2001 in response to the result of climate change. The Carbon Trust projected aim was to reduce carbon emissions and develop commercial low carbon technologies.

Since the corporation of The Carbon Trust in 2001 they have helped UK business save over 23 million tonnes of CO2, and more than £1.4billion. Over the next three years they predict to save a further 17 million tonnes of CO2 across the private and public sectors.

The Big Business Refit plans has been designed as an incentive and make it possible for small and medium sized business to replace their old technological equipment, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, with up to date energy efficient equipment.

Through the Big Business Refit plan the Carbon Trust is offering unsecured interest free loans from £3,000 to £400,000. To ensure the loan is affordable, it can spread of 4 years, although the loan is designed to pay for themselves through energy savings. In order to qualify for the interest loans, the business must fit into the EU definition of a small to medium sized business, which must have less than 250 employees and an annual turnover below £50million.
